In a $1.1 million plan, Carinity is moving to switch 8 of its aged care communities - including retirement villages - to solar power. It is estimated that this change will see greenhouse gas emission savings equivalent to 165 tonnes of landfill.
Carinity's sustainability strategy includes the following measures:
- smaller & more fuel-efficient fleet vehicles
- managing kitchen waste to avoid landfill
- 40% reduction in paper usage
- preference to choosing "green" suppliers
To ensure maximum production of solar energy throughout the day, the panels will be positioned at different orientations and pitches. Across 5 of the communities the total 1,460 solar panels is estimated to generate a total peak capacity of 528.50 MWh.
